Ascension Student Sets New Community Service Record

Sophomore, Ella Dupuie
Every Ascension student must complete at least 60 community service hours throughout their high school career to graduate. One senior, Connor Nepveaux, went above and beyond serving his community and currently holds the all-time school record for the most service hours completed by one student, with a total of 459 hours.
He completed 18 hours his freshman year by acting as an altar server. He then completed over 188 hours as a sophomore helping at basketball camps, participating in altar service, staffing a faith camp, and more.  His junior year, Connor staffed faith camp and participated in altar service again, earning him an additional 230 hours, over 215 more hours than required for one year. Finally, his senior year, he completed over 22 hours through altar service, hurricane food preparation, and gate work for soccer.

When asked about Connor, Mrs. Fournet, the Academic Dean, said, “The crazy thing about his total number of hours is that if COVID had not happened, he would have earned even more. One of his biggest contributions over the years was as a staffer at his Faith Camp, which was canceled last summer. Connor is the kind of person who is always willing to lend a hand, and on top of having a servant’s heart, he’s very humble.”

Connor Nepveaux is a compassionate and selfless person who enjoys helping others and serving his community without any expectation of reward. His service hours reflect his heart and his character.
