Cross Country Teams Not Slowing Down

Ascension Episcopal School
If you haven’t noticed, our weather is no longer hot, but what is still on fire is our boy's and girl’s cross country teams! Broken school records, first-place finishes, and one of the largest girl's teams since the school’s cross country team was created.

These successes don’t come without hard work, perseverance, and grit. Our high school students are often waking up at extremely early hours of the day to meet at SMP for morning workouts by 5:45 am. They go through rigorous speed workouts (continuous 800m run repeats) and 5-mile runs for time. They wake up even earlier to prepare themselves for meets that take place anywhere from 6 am to 10 am in the morning and have to stay on top of their calorie intake to ensure they are getting enough nutrients to maintain healthy growth throughout the season. Aside from their grueling morning workouts, you can often see these participants covered in mud from head to toe from running through mud and uneven terrain.

Check out just some of their amazing recent accomplishments:
  • Quinton Foshee has already broken the school record twice this year.
  • Our girl’s team has enough athletes for the first time to score at meets, and they have been ranking in the top at each meet both individually and as a team.
  • Sarah Godley has come in the top ten in every race that she has completed this year with multiple first-place finishes recently.
You can catch them at their next meet on Saturday, October 8th at Acadiana Park at 8 am.
