Through dedication to growth and commitment to craft, these four students earned scholarships from universities around the country.

Eli Ortego, a humble and helpful leader, committed to play golf for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. His coach, Jay Mendell, says, “Eli is one of the top players in the country, and I couldn’t be prouder. He is ULL’s golf program’s top recruit in the last 10 years.”

Sophie Sierveld, an Ascension swimmer since 5th grade, committed to swim at Loyola University New Orleans. Coach Colleen Barcyck comments, “Sophie is always helpful and holds multiple state champion titles, multiple district champion titles, and multiple regional champion titles. She is also part of a relay that currently holds a state record.”

Ashley Gill, an Ascension swimmer since 5th grade, committed to swim for the University of Missouri. Coach Colleen Barcyck says, “ Ashley is a multiple state champion, multiple district champion, a state record holder for 100-fly, is part of a relay that holds a state record, and was named swimmer of the year for LHSAA in 2019.”

Mason Schlang, a hurricane Laura evacuee who joined Ascension in August, committed to swim for Old Dominion University in Virginia. Coach Colleen Barcyck says, “ Mason always has a positive outlook. He comes in everyday goofy, laughing, smiling, and never complaining, and I think this is one of the reasons he has landed [a spot] at a division one school. I’m truly inspired by this young man.”
