After an extensive search that began over a year ago, Ascension Episcopal School Administration is pleased to announce that Dr. Keith Rice has accepted the opportunity to serve as our Associate Head of School for Curriculum and Academics beginning July 1, 2021.

Dr. Rice will oversee all aspects of our curriculum, including our PK3 - 12th-grade academic program. His responsibilities will involve ensuring vertical alignment and curriculum mapping, and appropriate scope and sequencing of all three campuses' courses. He will also contribute to other critical areas such as faculty professional development, student and faculty scheduling, and standardized testing.

A native of Dothan, Alabama, he earned his Bachelor of Social Sciences degree from the University of Montevallo, then went on to the University of Alabama to pursue Masters and Doctorate degrees in Secondary Education. A distinguished educator with teaching experience from middle school to university level, Keith comes to us following twenty years at UMS-Wright Preparatory School in Mobile, Alabama. He has taught several courses there, including geography, world history, U.S. history, and AP European history.

Dr. Rice also brings a wealth of relevant administrative experience. From 2008 to 2020, he served UMS-Wright as Academic Dean, monitoring and evaluating classroom teachers and their instruction, furthering faculty professional growth and development, recruiting and hiring new teachers, coordinating the Advanced Placement Program, and collaborating in the development of faculty and student schedules. While serving in this role, he was instrumental in developing and implementing various learning initiatives ranging from STEM to academic support to technology and virtual learning.

Keith and his wife, Terri, have two sons, John, a freshman and baseball player at Mississippi College, and Joseph, a 10th grader who will be part of the Ascension Class of 2023 beginning next school year.

We are excited to work with Keith as he leads our academic programs into the future, partnering with him to turn his vision into a reality. He recently expressed the following regarding his new endeavor:
"I am humbled to serve Ascension Episcopal School as Associate Head of School for Curriculum and Academics. In meeting with members of the leadership team and the faculty, it became clear to me that Ascension is a special school where God’s work is being undertaken by incredibly talented and caring professionals. The faculty, staff, students, and parents with whom my family and I have had the pleasure of meeting are wonderful representatives of this impressive institution, and they could not have been more welcoming. I am thrilled to have this opportunity to work alongside such a gifted faculty and staff, and I can’t wait to get started!"
