Junior at Ascension Uses His Passion to Help Others

As a junior or senior, students at Ascension Episcopal School have the opportunity to enroll in an elective independent study course to learn more about technology and assist the technology team.

One of its newest members, Andrew Curtis, uses his passion for video editing to help students, teachers, and staff at Ascension. Amidst assisting students with computer issues, Andrew creates Mac and Google tutorial videos and shares them with the Sugar Mill Pond Campus students and faculty. Additionally, Andrew learns the ins and outs of live-streaming as he aids Dean of Students Steven Sorrell with broadcasting the campus' daily chapel to the student body and Ascension families.

Andrew became a Blue Gator in Pre-K, and first learned video editing in Middle School Media Literacy class. His classmates recognized his exceptional talent and creativity as he grew to become "lead editor" of the school's morning news show using Final Cut Pro. Mrs. Morgan Vondenstein, his former media literacy teacher, comments, "Andrew always had a knack for editing. His peers always looked to him for advice, editing hacks, and approval when working on their projects. I am so proud to see him putting those skills to use at the SMP Campus."
