Melinda Mangham, longtime Lafayette educator, remembered for her 'steel and softness'Melinda Mangham, a larger than life Lafayette educator who championed students and teachers with undeniable passion for decades, has died.
The love and respect of her students was clear at the end of her life. Elizabeth Mangham said her mother's former students sent a flood of letters to the elder Mangham that her daughter read at her bedside. Seeing that outpouring of affection was cathartic and deeply comforting, Elizabeth Mangham said.
With each letter, the elder Mangham regaled her daughter with stories about the writer. She was thinking of her students until the very end, she said.
“She was a remarkable woman. I am so thankful that we had the opportunity to share her with so many people. She never ever made any of us feel like we weren’t the only person she was focused on at that moment,” her daughter said.
