Music

Studies show that children who study music are more likely to excel in all of their studies, work better in teams, have enhanced critical thinking skills, stay in school, and pursue further education. It unlocks self-expression, intelligence, and creativity. Our goal at Ascension is not to just foster musicians but to foster well-rounded compassionate individuals.

  • Preschool

Beginning at our preschool campus, students learn the basics of music through movement, song, and sign language during music class. Also, music permeates students’ days as teachers incorporate music in classrooms.
  • Lower & Middle School

Lower School students participate in weekly music classes on the Downtown Campus and look forward to many performance opportunities. Each grade level has a musical performance on stage, in chapel, and also community outreach performances.

Middle School students have the opportunity to participate in choir and digital music or strings and digital music. At Ascension, we encompass all aspects of music, including composition, recording, mixing, and performing.
  • Upper School

Our Upper School music programs provide courses in strings and vocal music. Ascension students have won awards in LMEA and ACDA music competitions, and many have been selected for District and All-State honors.

Our students often participate in music-related clubs. Many perform in our upper school musical, while others perform during our chapel or Eucharist services. Often our students will perform the national anthem during our Ascension sporting events or at other events across Acadiana. Our student-led “Rock Band/ Drumline” can be found Friday nights during football season in the stands, cheering on the home crowd.

We provide an abundance of opportunities including; traveling for workshops or competitions, solo and ensemble performances, and student-led ensembles.
