Spiritual Life at Ascension

Episcopal Identity

As embodiments of the Christian faith, Episcopal schools are created to be communities that honor, celebrate, and worship God as the center of life. They are created to be models of God’s love and grace. They are created to serve God in Christ in all persons, regardless of origin, background, ability, or religion. They are created to “strive for justice and peace among all people and [to] respect the dignity of every human being.”

The Church of the Ascension

The Episcopal Church of the Ascension celebrates Christ’s ascent into Heaven whereupon he commanded his disciples to give testimony of him and his message “to the ends of the earth.” Since its beginning in 1845, our church continues to worship God and serve his people in our community and around the globe. We welcome you to worship and serve with us. The name “Episcopal” comes from the Greek language meaning ‘supervisor’ and refers to our form of church leadership by bishops who oversee and guide the church and its people. Together, we share Christ’s service as his disciples. The Episcopal Church in the United States is a branch of the Anglican Communion that is historically rooted in the Church of England. Today, there are over eighty million Anglicans worldwide with over 1.5 million in the United States. Our common faith and form of worship is expressed in The Book of Common Prayer and is used by all Anglicans everywhere.

Our Faith & Worship

Ascension is an Episcopal Church dedicated to our Anglican heritage and identity. Our principal service of worship at Ascension is the Holy Eucharist. This service has two main parts, namely, (1) the Word of God, in which we hear God’s Word read and preached and (2) the Holy Communion, a celebration of the Lord’s Supper that Jesus commanded his disciples share in remembrance of his life, death and resurrection.

Our Christian Service

All God’s people have been called to follow him and to serve him and his world. Every member is a minister and every minister has a ministry. And to fulfill this mission, we offer many opportunities to deepen our faith and to strengthen our parish family and Christian service. Ascension supports various ministries at home and abroad.
