Student Council Secures Funding for New Cheer Mats
Ascension Episcopal School
When you are president, you represent the people. This is just what 7th grade Student Council President at Ascension Episcopal achieved. When fellow cheerleader classmates approached Allie about needing new cheer mats, Allie came up with a plan.
She began by researching the best cheer mats that were sturdy and supportive and wouldn’t break the bank. After finding the perfect ones, Allie had to figure out how she would earn the $2,708 for two 2-inch thick carbon bonded foam Victory cheer mats. After speaking with the student council, they decided to cut costs of their upcoming dance, saving $1500. But that wasn’t enough.
Rather than giving up, Allie called on the Ascension Booster Club for help. Allie prepared a speech and presented her case to the Booster Club executive committee, asking for a match to the Student Council’s contribution. By unanimous vote, Allie secured funding for the new cheer mats!
It would have been easy for Allie to tell the cheerleaders that the cost was too high or the work too hard, but that's not what a leader does. She tackled the problem, made a plan, and when she encountered a hurdle, Allie saw it as an opportunity to get creative.
We are so proud of Allie and the entire middle school Student Council. They represent all Blue Gators should be: gentle, generous, truthful, kind, and brave.
