Writes of Spring Writing Contest Winners Announced

Ascension Episcopal School
Four Ascension students were recognized in the 21st annual Writes of Spring Writing Contest. The contest is a way to acknowledge K–12 Grade students in Lafayette Parish and surrounding areas for their writing talent and ability. Congratulations to the following Ascension middle and upper school students:

1st place in 11th - 12th grade fiction: Chloe Ste. Marie - “Crepe Myrtle” poem
2nd place in 9th - 10th grade fiction: Spencer Howat - “The Dawning”
2nd place in 7th - 8th grade fiction: Graycen Daly - “The Unlucky”
3rd place in 5th - 6th grade fiction: Sophie Courville - “Vending Machine of Love”

Chloe’s English teacher, Shome Dasgupta, had this to say when he found out she placed first,

Since March, Chloe has been writing various poems and stories--sending them my way every now and then just to read. Although she was hesitant, I'm so glad she submitted it! She has been working so hard with her writing all year. I told her that it doesn't matter if she places or not, but that the most important aspect is that you're putting yourself out there while also practicing your creative skills…while pursuing the passion of writing.

A winner’s award ceremony will be held at the Lafayette Public Library in May. Students will receive an anthology of the winners’ works, a certificate, and a visit from young adult author Sarah Guillory.  The students and all who entered the contest deserve recognition for their bravery and growth! Our amazing teachers prepared and guided our students to success!
