Ascension Episcopal School Launches Bright New Year with Opening Convocation
Ascension Episcopal School
Back in August, Ascension Episcopal School began the 2025–2026 school year with its annual Opening Convocation. Ms. Sarah Davenport, Interim Head of School, welcomed Blue Gators back, encouraging them to see the new year as “a fresh opportunity… not only to excel in the classroom or on the field, but to grow as people, as members of the Ascension family.”
This year’s theme, “You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others” (Matthew 5:14–16), reminded students that their light shines brightest in the everyday ways they encourage and support one another.
Highlights included a school year blessing, during which seniors passed symbolic torches of light to our youngest students, a joyful campus-wide singing of “This Little Light of Mine,” and a Glow Show trivia teacher challenge.
Senior Prefects closed the convocation with a powerful charge for the year, offering encouragement tailored to each grade level.
Lead Prefect Amir Balbeisi reflected, “In the dark, even the smallest candle changes everything… and if one candle can do that, imagine what happens when hundreds of us light our candles together.”
We were especially honored to welcome Mrs. Jeanette Parker, founder of Ascension in 1959, whose vision continues to inspire generations of Blue Gators. More than six decades ago, her vision planted the seeds for the thriving, faith-centered community Ascension is today.
At the conclusion of convocation, the community gathered for a school-wide photo. Rooted in tradition, bound by faith, and committed to shining brightly together in the year ahead, Ascension Episcopal School celebrates the new school year.
The Episcopal Church of the Ascension School (Ascension Episcopal School) admits qualified students without regard to race, religion, sexual orientation, or national origin. We are a welcoming community.
