Dr. Ray Lucas Named Morehead-Cain Impact Educator

Ascension Episcopal School
Congratulations to Dr. Ray Lucas, who has been named an Impact Educator by the Morehead-Cain Scholarship Program—an honor awarded to educators who make a profound difference in the lives of their students.

Dr. Lucas was selected by Amir Balbeisi, recently named a Morehead-Cain semifinalist, who recognized Dr. Lucas as the educator who has had the greatest positive influence on his academic and personal growth.

This recognition highlights Dr. Lucas’s lasting influence as an educator and mentor, and reflects Ascension Episcopal School’s commitment to developing students of character, leadership, and purpose. Dr. Lucas is one of only two educators in Louisiana to hold this distinction in 2026.

In addition to this achievement, Lucas recently earned his Ph.D. in early United States history, with minor fields in Spanish-American Borderlands and Atlantic World history. His dissertation, “Enlightenment Ideas and American Process: Creating the Southern Boundary, 1796–1800,” marks the culmination of years of scholarly work, cementing his new title as Dr. Ray Lucas. Ascension is grateful to have Dr. Lucas on our faculty and to celebrate this remarkable achievement alongside him.
