Ascension Episcopal School Announces Sarah Davenport as New Head of School
Ascension Episcopal School
Ascension Episcopal School is pleased to announce the official appointment of Ms. Sarah Davenport as its new Head of School, following her highly successful six-month tenure as Interim Head.
Earlier this year, Ascension found itself in a season of significant transition within both the School and Ascension Episcopal Church. Charged with selecting a leader who could guide the community with steadiness and vision, the School Board—supported by the Church—asked Ms. Davenport, then serving as Upper School Division Head, to assume the interim role. The Board recognized her as having the experience, leadership, and stability needed to navigate this pivotal period.
Since stepping into the position, Ms. Davenport has made a notable and positive impact across all divisions. Her professionalism, energy, and deep commitment to Ascension’s mission have strengthened the leadership team and inspired faculty, students, and families. Throughout the fall, parents and teachers alike have expressed strong support for her leadership, often asking: “When will Sarah be named our permanent Head of School?”
Today, that moment has arrived.
Community Leaders Express Their Confidence
Dr. Jeanette Parker, founder of Ascension Day School in 1959, celebrated the announcement and praised Ms. Davenport’s blend of expertise and faith-driven leadership.
“I am delighted to congratulate Ms. Sarah Davenport on her official promotion to Ascension’s Head of School. During her few months as Interim Head, Sarah has applied her keen professional expertise to the academic experience, church-school relationships, and other tasks critical to the growth of our school. However, I believe the most significant qualities she brings are her deep Christian commitment and her view of the position as a calling from the Lord. I am optimistic that her leadership will enable our school to shine in the coming years.”
Board Chair Dr. Michael Peebles also expressed his gratitude and optimism about the school’s future.
“Our school needs, and our children deserve, a committed and excellent leader in order for Ascension to achieve its fullest potential in delivering educational excellence in a Christian environment. We approached this decision with great thoughtfulness and prayer under the guidance of Father Matt Ainsley.
This Thanksgiving, I gave thanks for all that Ascension has meant to my family, and this year, I am especially grateful for Sarah and Father Matt. I am confident that under their leadership, Ascension Episcopal School will thrive and continue to serve its mission faithfully.”
Celebrating a Momentous Appointment
Ascension Episcopal School looks forward with enthusiasm and gratitude as Ms. Davenport officially steps into her permanent role. Her leadership arrives at a defining moment in the school’s history—one marked by growth, a renewed mission, and strong community support.
