Movement, Music, and Math: Ascension Takes Part in Hour of Code for 5th Consecutive Year

Ascension Episcopal School
The annual International Hour of Code exceeded a billion coders in 2020, and we are thrilled that Ascension students were part of the record-breaking event. For the 5th consecutive year, students on all three of our campuses explored age-appropriate computer science activities throughout Hour of Code Week.   ...
Ascension’s youngest Blue Gators learned programming terminology and fundamentals while coding Bee-bots with directional instructions to knock down cup tower creations in “Cup Crash.” During motor development, students moved outside, creating chalk drawings to be followed by robots. Preschoolers also brought Christmas festivities into the mix by coding robots to find missing ornaments for Santa during Innovation Lab.

Middle School students continued the holiday theme by generating Christmas messages using Scratch, a block-based visual programming language. Music teachers also engaged students to use Scratch for composing music and creatively introduced coding skills through song with Makey Makey kits.

Upper School math students committed to an hour of code and learned the relationship between computer science, math, and art. While drawing with code on Khan Academy, students worked with angles, rotations, and measurements to create unique artworks.
