Ascension’s Middle School Student Council brings home the gold!

Ascension Episcopal School
At the 2022 Louisiana Association of Student Councils (LASC) state convention at Archbishop Hannan High School in Covington, eleven middle school student leaders proudly represented Ascension. Leadership came alive as these students competed in the middle school essay and dollhouse diorama contests and voted for state board executive officers.

One seventh-grader, Natalya Grant, won first place in the state middle school oratory contest, reciting her speech from memory in front of the entire delegation of 80+ middle and high schools from our great state! “I remember Natalya being shy when she was in preschool, so to see her with so much confidence on stage is so heartwarming and speaks to the wonderful leadership of our Student Council and teachers at Ascension,” says one of her former educators. Below is a small excerpt from Natalya’s speech:
For the past ten years as a student at Ascension, I have never felt alone, excluded, or misunderstood. We are a united society that listens to each other and respects each other. This is because of our student council, which has worked constantly to shape my school into what it is. Our student leaders represent all the virtues of our school: gentle, generous, truthful, kind, and brave.”

Along with Natalya’s prestigious award, Ascension Episcopal School’s student council was awarded Gold Council for exemplary record of leadership, service, and activities that serve to improve the school and Louisiana community. Additionally, they earned the Student Council Week Merit Award for unselfish and dedicated service in promoting the ideals and goals of the Student Council program in their school and community.

The lessons learned and the inspiration gained during the Student Council Convention will carry students for years to come as they continue to find new ways to support not only their school but also their community. Mrs. Gros reflects, "After three exciting days, we were reminded to 'Live out this convention every single day. Go home and make leadership come alive at your school.'”
